Good Morning Division 1!

Shape of the Day

8:30 - 8:50am – Check in with yourself.  Ask yourself what number you are?  Consider why?  If you have not done so already, create a sleep record that you will fill in Monday to Friday until we are out of this “new normal”.  Record what time you went to bed last night (actually fell asleep) and the quality of your sleep (sound/woke up once or twice/tossed and turned) and what time you woke up this morning.  Record any dreams you recall.  Consider if they have any significance to you.  This will be a routine that will be helpful.  It is also a possible science experiment in the making.  This will give you a baseline as to your sleep patterns.

8:50 – 9:00am – Stretch break.  Listen to one or two of your favourite songs and move around.

9:00 – 10:15am – If you’ve not done so already, sign up for Khan Academy.  Explore more of what it has to offer. Because it might be a little frustrating to sign up and try to figure how to navigate this website, go easy on yourself, and persevere.  Don’t give up just because you can’t make sense of it at first.  Use patience.  If you are still struggling to sign up and use by the end of the week, send me an email and let me know.

Try some things that you are comfortable with first, (like grade 3 multiplication) just to get used to how the website works.

10:15 – 11:15 – Go Outside.  Either find something active to do (like a sport, trampoline, garden) or do something creative (like sketch something you see in nature, create a work of nature art, or make a good old-fashioned mud pie).  Do what you did yesterday, or do something new.  The weather is beautiful this week and it is important to be in nature.  Listen to the bird calls that are coming back.  See if you might be able to identify them.

11:15 – 12:00 – Read a book.  If you don’t have a book, check out the Gibsons Public Library… they are offering over the phone accounts if you don’t have one.  That way, you will have access to all of their ebooks and audiobooks.  Call/access them online during this time and find something that interests you.  This may also take patience!

12:00 – 1:00 – Lunch Break – Perhaps you could make your family lunch and then clean up after yourself?

1:00 – 2:00 – Creative writing.  As mentioned yesterday, the theme this week is HOPE.  You will take this time to create a piece of writing that reflects the theme.  You can write some poetry (remember the forms of poetry we were using before the break: haiku, limerick, acrostic, ballad, ode) using poetic devices (metaphor, simile, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, euphemism, rhyme scheme, oxymoron).  If poetry isn’t your jam, you can start a short story.  Or, if you’d prefer to keep a journal that records your thoughts during this strange time, feel free to do that.  You could also create a comic strip (with some labels and speech bubbles).  Remember though, you MUST make sure that your writing has the clear theme of HOPE.

2:00 – 2:30 – Duo Lingo.  Start a duo lingo account if you haven’t done so already.  Then, pick which language you want to focus on and go for it!

This plan is similar to yesterday’s plan.  If you would prefer to do some coding instead of Duo Lingo, Khan Academy also offers this.  Or, spend more of your afternoon outside in nature and save the online stuff for when there are days that are gross and you’d prefer to stay in.  I strongly suggest spending as much time outside as possible.  You will find yourself connecting with the earth in ways you may not have had the opportunity to before.  Relax, breathe, and be mindful of how your body feels when it is outside.
