Math Grade 7

Math is one of those subjects that often causes people anxiety.  The fact is though, even if you don't make the connection, you likely are using math all day long.  I have added some new sites below, in case you need a change!  Please try to do some math skill training for at least 50 minutes each day.

If you are finding that Khan Academy is not working for you, please touch base and we will find something else that meets your needs.  This is a time for trial and error for everyone.  Some things will work and others won't.  If Khan Academy simply isn't for you and it makes you NOT practice your math, please let me know.  I will do my best to help you out!

Please remember not to get stuck!  If you do not understand a concept, even after watching the video a few times, move onto another area of the math.  Sometimes the brain just needs to focus on something else for a bit and then when you go back to the concept, you might be more ready to tackle it!

Do not give up after one try!  You are going to need to draw on your perseverance and resilience.  One step at a time, just like climbing Mount Steele, which I will remind you, You did this year!!

Please remember: In math, you often must force your brain to pay attention.  This takes patience and giving YOURSELF compassion.  Be kind to yourself!  This might be out there for some of you… even tell yourself that you love yourself and that it’s okay not to get something straight away.  It doesn’t mean don’t try again, it just means take a break and come back to it.

As we move forward, I will begin updating classroom activities by subjects.  Math will include all areas of Numeracy.

So far, our online Math focus has been familiarizing yourself with Khan Academy.  Please sign up for an account if you have not done so already.  Please check your email for the Class Code so that you can link up to the class account.  This way, I will be able to monitor your progress.

I recently assigned a Grade 6 Geometry Unit.  I set a date of April 24th (next Friday) to complete the unit.  This is because I have to set a date, not because I think you should have completed the unit.  Again, I want to work with families.  I think that students likely could finish this unit, but don’t expect you to, if that’s not what best supports you.  It does give you an idea, however, of what you might wish to cover and a time frame.

I will assign a new unit starting Monday April 27th.

Though we have been using Khan Academy so far, this does not mean you are limited to it.  It is a guide, like everything else.  Please feel free to check out these other math sites.

This is a site that has a "bajillion" (that's a number, right?) worksheets to choose from.

This site asks you to view images and make connections (this is math - this is what I mean when I say you use math all day long).

This PDF gives you clues and asks you to solve each number.  Don't look at the second page straight away, as this is the answer page... in other words, there's be no point to doing this activity.
