Please watch the following video to remind you of the terms below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgBBfM8SYPA Dictatorship: a government strategy where one powerful person or party has full control over the whole population.  An example of this is North Korea Oligarchy: a government strategy where powerful rich people have the majority of say over the whole population.  Examples of oligarchies can be found in Russia. Democracy: a government strategy where the general population (usually adults) vote on which political party they wish to control the country.  Canada is an example of a democracy. Consensus: this is where a population would have to agree on any and all issues that impact the entire group.  A process could not move forward without agreement from all.  An example of this is restorative justice circles. Thanks to everyone who brought their band instruments today! Please note that topics have been chosen for the geology project that will be worked on over the next couple of weeks.  We will go over what the expectations are going to be for the project on Monday.  Students can, if they wish, do some preliminary internet searches on their topic.  They can use the sites provided or can even investigate sites not on the list in the mean time to become better oriented with their topics. Some consent forms for the Mount Steele trip coming up on Wednesday of this coming week have not been signed by a witness (this is district policy for a high-risk extended experience).  These forms will be sent home on Monday and parents are asked to make sure they have been signed by another individual.  Thanks so much for this labour intensive process! Have a great weekend everyone.😁

Please note with the hoodie info that we have not gone over sizing or colour choices.  I will have this information for students tomorrow. There is no homework today, though students can finish side A of the place value sheet we worked on in class if they'd like to keep fresh with their skills.  Students could also practice the multiplication sheet below (I'd give them 5 minutes to fill out as many as they can).  The sheet is from the following site:  https://www.math-drills.com Please remember that tea may only be consumed now if a student has a closable lidded travel mug.  No open ceramic mugs will be allowed for safety concerns.

Hello Parents and Students in Division 1, This will be the primary way we communicate information from the classroom this year.  If you need to get ahold of me, please email my school district address (jmacinnes@sd46.bc.ca) or call the school to make an appointment. I am looking forward to working with our students this year! Students, please check the blog if you are unsure of upcoming assignment due dates.  As we begin our year, our homework load will be relatively light.  As we progress into October and November, however, we will have assignments for which you will be responsible.  This site is a good guide to keep up to date! Thanks, families, for the support you've already offered with our hike-a-thon adventures.  We really appreciate all that you do! Here's to a fresh start!! Ms Jen MacInnes.
