Students have been assigned chapters 12 and 13 in Touching Spirit Bear for tomorrow. Students have also been assigned Social Studies projects.  Please see the Hominid Project link for more information. The French test was postponed to tomorrow.  It will be first thing in the morning. The math we attempted is below.  Students were asked to work in groups and force themselves to try to understand.  This is an excellent way for students to attempt understanding before being influenced by an adult or a specific algorithm (which may solve the question, but not promote understanding).  I encourage you to work together to seek resolution!  The first section of the page models, the second half asks you to use what you have pieced together above to show your understanding.  I like to think of this more as a puzzle than just math.

There is no official homework over the weekend. However...  students are expected to have responses up to chapter five complete (which we read together in class today). Students may also wish to brush up on their algebraic relations, which we are covering in math.  Please see the questions below to remind yourself about what will be expected of you. Finally, I would wish for students to get outside this weekend and make something out of what they can find in nature.  Little kids are really good at this (making mud pies and other creations).  Consider something useful you could make out of what nature provides...and have fun doing it!

Thursday November 15th 2018

Today students attended a Hockey Heroes event! We completed all of math 1.4 this morning in class. Students are asked to read and respond up to (and including) chapter 4 of Touching Spirit Bear for tomorrow. Wednesday November 14th 2018

Hello Students, Please make sure that you read chapter 2 of Touching Spirit Bear .  Please also complete a chapter 2 response, or you can do this in the morning. If not done science, please make sure that this is done by tomorrow. Please also remember to practice your band instruments! Discussion questions:  What are events in a person's life which can challenge them?  Why do some people, when challenged become angry, sad, or frustrated, where other people seemingly manage their challenge without those emotions?  Is it reasonable to express anger, sadness, or frustration towards others?

Tuesday, November 13th 2018

Today students wrote their science paragraphs based on all of the notes that they had made throughout the past few days. We also worked through 1.4 in math.  There is no math homework today. Students should be practicing their band instruments at least 15 minutes, 4 nights per week. Discussion questions:  What is a theme?  What are some of the themes that we discussed in Roy Dimond's I, Bully ?  What are some of the themes tackled in your favourite movie?  Is there a difference between a theme song and the theme in say a book or a movie?  Why do authors or movie directors focus on themes?

Monday November 5th 2018

Today students began by signing up for Duolingo, a computer program for learning languages.  Students will need an email address in order to proceed with the program on a sequential level.  If students do not yet have an email address, it would be helpful for parents to either allow students to use a parent's email address, or perhaps, if you are comfortable with your child having their own email address, they could create one with you. Students will need to complete exercise 1.3, numbers 1-10 if they did not do so in class already today. Science booklets 1, 2, 3, 11, 12, 13 will be due on Wednesday, November 7th. Finally, please look over the following quotation from I, Bully by Roy Dimond (p.141).  Explain to your family the context in which this quotation fits in the book and how it impacts you and your relationship with your parents/family: "Most kids just talk with their friends when something is bothering them.  That's okay.  It's good to talk to y...
